PORT ANGELES – There’s good news for travelers on Highway 101 in Port Angeles: the highway between Tumwater Truck Route and South Pine Street Cutoff is now open to traffic.
101 reopened at 9:50 Thursday night. Travelers have had to use a detour since March 3, when the roadway closed to all traffic around the clock. During the 80-day closure, contractor crews built the new bridge over Tumwater Creek to remove a barrier to fish migration.
Drivers can expect daytime one-way alternating traffic on weekdays at Tumwater Creek as construction continues. Crews will excavate beneath the new bridge and prepare for the in-water work, which will take place this summer. Overall construction at Tumwater Creek is expected to wrap up this fall.
