SELAH — Port Angeles finished second in the Class 2A State Softball Tournament after a 2-1 loss to Aberdeen in Saturday’s championship game at Carlon Park.
Earlier that morning, senior pitcher Heidi Leitz threw a perfect game to lead the Roughriders past No. 2 Mark Morris 1-0 in the semifinals. Leitz retired all 21 batters she faced, keeping Port Angeles’ title hopes alive.
Morgan Politika provided the game’s only run with an RBI double, sending the Roughriders to just their second state final in school history.
Port Angeles came up short in the final but capped a strong postseason run with a historic performance from Leitz and a trip to the championship game.
