Port Angeles – Civic Field’s new state-of-the-art video scoreboard is being installed this week, and will soon be lighting up the stadium for Lefties baseball, Roughrider football and more.
Contractors Nevco Inc. and Port Angeles-based Olympic Electric have been handling the construction of the $725,000 project for the City of Port Angeles. Parks and Recreation Director Corey Delikat told KONP that the goal is to get the scoreboard ready for testing and training on how to use it in the first week of June.
Delikat said the new videoboard is capable of functioning like any of the ones you would see at a minor or major league stadium, including player profiles, videos and advertising. He said, at some point there could be the possibility of instant replay, but additional cameras would have to be added to the facility.
The pricey project was funded through a State Commerce grant of $582,000 thanks to a one-time “Minor League Baseball Publicly Owned Stadium Improvement Fund”, signed by the Governor, that distribute a total of $24 million to 11 community stadiums, including our very own Civic Field. The grant was combined with
$145,000 from the City’s Lodging Tax Capital funds to cover the total cost.
