Meyer stepping down from Port Angeles City Council at month’s end

BY PEPPER FISHER

Port Angeles – Port Angeles City Councilmember Brendan Meyer announced at Tuesday’s meeting that they will be resigning at the end of this month.

“I’m sadly informing you that I will be resigning from Council at the end of June, 6/30, 2025. I’m proud of the time I served on the council but, unfortunately, I’m currently facing some serious health concerns. I’m sad not to finish my term and not pushing through, but I feel like it’s the right decision for me and my family. My time on Council has been an enlightening one. I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the weight that a person can feel in this role. I tried to follow a few simple principles. Help, not hurt, promote growth, and represent all the constituents. I truly tried to bring a perspective free of my own partisan bias because, you know, I think everybody has some, part of them. During my time on Council we agreed on many things, argued in good faith about the differences, and more often than not collaborated in a constructive way. I hope that the policies that I helped put in place will help the people and the economy of Port Angeles flourish into the future.”

Meyer was elected to Council Position #7, serving from January of 2020 until December 2023. They were re-elected to serve from January of 2024 until December of 2027.

City staff will likely announce an application process in the coming weeks to fill Meyer’s term until the end of 2027. Council will, by law, have 90 days from that time to appoint a successor.
