Torch Run for Special Olympics Lights Up Clallam County Tuesday

PORT ANGELES — Law enforcement officers and community members will take part in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run on Tuesday, to support Special Olympics Washington.

The run begins at 7 a.m. at the Laird Road Park and Ride, with participants carrying a ceremonial torch through Port Angeles to Hollywood Beach. There, Special Olympics athletes will join Clallam County Sheriff Brian King and Port Angeles Police Chief Brian Smith.

The route continues east on the Olympic Discovery Trail with support from the sheriff’s bike patrol and search and rescue team. A stop is scheduled around 1 p.m. near N. Rhodefer and West Sequim Bay roads, where Sequim Police Chief Mike Hill will meet the group.

The final leg ends at 7 Cedars Casino between 2 and 2:30 p.m., followed by a public celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. featuring hot air balloon rides, a foam obstacle course, a dunk tank, and a display of the county’s armored rescue vehicle.

Torch Run apparel will be available, with proceeds benefiting Special Olympics athletes. Clallam County has already raised more than $3,500. Participating agencies include local law enforcement, the Washington Department of Corrections, and the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, which donated $1,000.
