Clallam County Leads State in Special Olympics Torch Run Fundraising

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County has earned the top fundraising spot in Washington for this year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, raising more than $5,000 during the annual event.

The 37-mile run on Tuesday carried the Flame of Hope from Laird’s Corner to 7 Cedars Resort, supported by law enforcement officers, public safety workers, and volunteers. The event ended in a festive celebration at the resort, which donated $1,000 and hosted community activities including a dunk tank, bouncy house, and hot air balloon rides.

Special Olympics athletes from the Clallam County Orcas joined the finale, which featured lighthearted moments as participants took turns dunking Sheriff Brian King, Port Angeles Police Chief Brian Smith, Sequim Police Chief Mike Hill, and players from the Port Angeles Lefties.

The run included broad community participation, with support from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, local police departments, tribal law enforcement, juvenile and adult corrections, and Peninsula Communications. Torch runners included county officials, tribal partners, volunteers, and corrections officers.
