Glass recycling is back in Port Angeles

Port Angeles – Glass recycling is back in Port Angeles.

The City of Port Angeles announced on Thursday the return of glass recycling services at both the Port Angeles Regional Transfer Station and Blue Mountain Transfer Station. Glass will be accepted for recycling at both facilities starting this Saturday, June 28.

You might recall that in October 2024, glass recycling in Port Angeles was temporarily paused due to unexpected changes in the recycled glass market, which caused the City’s previous glass processor to stop accepting material.

During the pause, City officials say they worked to identify long-term solutions to get glass recycling services going again. The result is a new partnership with glass processor Sibelco in Seattle, which produces a host of materials from crushed glass, sold worldwide.

Not much will change from the past recycling process. The City will continue to use separate glass recycling bins at both transfer stations to prevent the co-mingling of glass with other recyclable materials. The glass must be empty, clean and dry.

The Port Angeles Regional Transfer Station, located at 3501 West 18th Street, is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Blue Mountain Transfer Station, located at 1024 Blue Mountain Road, is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, also from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
