Washington Gas Tax Rising Six Cents this Week

SEATTLE — Washington drivers will see higher gas prices starting July 1, as the state’s gas tax rises by six cents per gallon. That adds to the current average price of $4.44 per gallon, which is $1.24 above the national average.

The state says the new tax revenue, approved by the legislature earlier this year, will fund road and bridge projects.

Additionally, Washington’s CO2 emissions tax under the Climate Commitment Act also recently increased by six cents per gallon. Combined, drivers could pay up to 12 cents more per gallon this month.

The state says the CO2 tax has raised $3.2 billion for programs aimed at cutting emissions, expanding rural transit, and supporting people with disabilities.
