MONROE — Port Angeles High School senior Pyper Alton had a busy weekend, starting with club soccer Friday in Skagit County, then stepping into the spotlight Saturday at Evergreen Speedway. She raced in front of several thousand fans and alongside 40 of the top Legend car drivers from as far as New Mexico and California.

Also in attendance was NASCAR legend Kevin Harvick, who raced later that night in the Mark Galloway 150 Super Stock event.

Pyper came into the weekend fresh off an impressive showing at Wenatchee Valley’s oval, where she started 11th in the main event and raced to a strong third-place podium finish.

At Evergreen Speedway on Saturday, Pyper qualified 17th in time trials with a lap of 18.674 on the fast 3/8-mile track. That put her in the A Main, starting from the ninth row.

In a rare clean and caution-free Legend main event, most drivers finished in their qualifying positions — including Pyper, who crossed the line in 17th.

Next up, the Pyper Alton Racing Team heads to South Sound Speedway in Rochester on July 12 for a Legends Tour race.
