ROCHESTER — Teen Legends sports car driver Pyper Alton took her #42 car to South Sound Speedway in Rochester on Saturday night for just the second time in her career, looking to improve on her previous outing at Evergreen Speedway in late June.
Alton did just that, qualifying as the sixth-fastest car in time trials and finishing fourth in the Legends main event — just one spot shy of the podium. The top three finishers were also the top three points leaders in the Legends division.
In a race marred by several yellow flags and restarts, Alton consistently held her inside line, fending off pressure from two drivers fighting for fourth in the closing laps.
After the race, a smiling Alton stood beside her crew chief — and father — Chad Alton, both taking a look at the damage left on her battered back bumper.
With little time to rest, Pyper now has just one week to prepare both mentally and mechanically for her return to Evergreen Speedway. She’ll race Friday and Saturday night during the track’s biggest event of the year — the annual Summer Showdown 200.
The event will feature top Super Stock drivers from across the country, including competitors from Florida and award-winning driver Bubba McDowell from North Carolina. Over 30 cars are expected to battle for the $30,000 purse, with $10,000 going to the winner.
