BRINNON – State fire resources were mobilized Tuesday afternoon to assist local crews battling the growing Belgian Fire near Brinnon in Jefferson County.
The fire was first reported around 2:10 p.m. on July 15 and had grown to an estimated 10 acres by late afternoon. Burning in brush, timber, and grass, the blaze is threatening homes and structures, prompting Level 1, 2, and 3 evacuations in the area. Authorities have been going door to door to evacuate residents in the threatened zones.
At 4:30 p.m., Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste approved a request from Brinnon Fire Chief Tim Manly to activate the State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan. One strike team has been ordered to aid in containment.
The State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray is operating at Level 2 to help coordinate the response. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
