Drugs Found Inside Clallam County Jail After Inmate Tip

PORT ANGELES — A tip from an inmate led to the discovery of suspected drugs inside the Clallam County Jail earlier this week.

Corrections staff launched a search of a housing unit on July 28 after an inmate—who was being moved because of conflicts with others—told deputies that drugs were being hidden in a cell nearby. Deputies searched the cell and found a plastic baggie containing a white crystalline substance believed to be meth.

The entire unit was placed on lockdown while deputies conducted a full shake-down of the area. During the search, they uncovered more items suspected to be drugs or drug paraphernalia.

Further investigation revealed that 39-year-old inmate Nicholas Baker had allegedly smuggled the drugs into the jail, hiding them in a body cavity during his arrest.

Several inmates have been written up for major infractions for possessing or helping bring drugs into the facility. The case is now in the hands of the Clallam County Prosecutor’s Office, which will decide on any criminal charges.
