PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will launch a Bachelor of Applied Science in Teacher Education program in fall 2025 to address the growing need for K-8 educators in the region.
The new BAS-TE program provides a direct path to Washington state teacher certification and features evening and hybrid classes designed for students balancing work and family. It combines academic coursework with in-classroom experience starting in the first year.
College President Suzy Ames says the program will help students remain in their communities while serving local schools.
The curriculum emphasizes trauma-informed and culturally responsive teaching. Students will work closely with mentors and gradually take on more classroom responsibilities.
The program features small class sizes, no current waitlist, and a flexible Tuesday/Thursday evening schedule. Applications are open year-round. Financial aid is available.
