PORT ANGELES – KONP received a statement Tuesday morning from Olympic Medical Center regarding our story yesterday that the hospital is in danger of losing its Medicare reimbursements following a determination by federal health officials that OMC remains out of compliance with key patient care standards.
A letter from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) says because of their deficiencies in Patient Rights and Nursing Services, the Medicare provider agreement between CMS and the hospital is scheduled to terminate on August 15, 2025.
OMC’s Bobby Stone sent us the following statement in response to our story;
“Olympic Medical Center is in ongoing communication with the Washington State Department of Health and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in response to patient care issues brought to light earlier this year. We are confident that our recent corrective actions will bring us back into full compliance with the Washington Department of Health and CMS. We welcome their input, value their guidance and appreciate their insights as we continue our quality and safety improvement journey.
It is disappointing that rumors are circulating regarding the future of our health system. There is no secret agenda we are trying to hide from our patients or community members.
As we move forward with our plans for the future, including our ongoing partnership exploration process, we look forward to serving this community today, tomorrow and for decades to come. We see the hard work our caregivers put into safe, quality care every day, and that will continue.”
The OMC Board of Directors will hold a regular meeting Wednesday that will an executive session to discuss their ongoing search for an interim CEO following last week’s resignation of CEO Darryl Wolfe.
