DIAMOND POINT — Firefighters from Clallam County Fire District 3 quickly contained two brush fires along the Diamond Point Airstrip on Monday morning after a community work party’s use of propane torches ignited dry grass.
The call came in at 11:09 a.m. on Aug. 11. Crews from Station 5 arrived to find a fast-moving blaze running along the edge of the runway. One fire grew to about 2.0 acres, while a second reached 0.2 acres before being contained.
Fire District 3’s Engine 35 established “Diamond Point Command” and requested additional resources, including an engine from Blyn and a brush engine from Station 34 in Sequim. Battalion Chief 3 also responded to coordinate firefighting efforts.
Firefighters created a wet line around both fires as wind gusts picked up to 11 mph, helping to prevent further spread.
So far in 2025, Fire District 3 has responded to 56 vegetation fires — more than half (51.9%) of its total fire calls.
