LEWISTON, Idaho — A 58-year-old Sequim man is in custody after allegedly firing at a Washington State Patrol trooper and another driver earlier this month.
Shawn Johnson was arrested Aug. 6 in Lewiston following a high-risk traffic stop by Idaho State Patrol. He was booked into the Nez Perce County Jail the next day on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge. His bail was set at $500,000, and a hearing to review a mental evaluation is scheduled for Aug. 29.
Troopers said Johnson, driving a white 2020 GMC Sierra, was reported waving a handgun out of his sunroof while traveling south on U.S. 95. Witnesses said shots were fired in Whitman County, Wash., and at another driver on Lewiston Hill. He also allegedly fired toward a state trooper before entering Idaho.
No injuries were reported. Johnson may face additional charges in Washington.
