PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles City Council has moved one step closer to filling the vacancy created by the June 30 resignation of Councilmember Brendan Meyer, whose departure triggered an official call for applications under the city’s established timeline.
Nine residents applied for the open Position No. 7, intended to run through December 2027. Each current council member selected their top three choices, and the trio with the most votes emerged Tuesday night: Jon Hamilton, with five votes; Christy Holy, with four; and Laurel Cripe, with three. These three candidates now advance to the interview stage.
The council will conduct formal interviews with Hamilton, Holy, and Cripe during its next meeting on September 2. The appointed individual will assume office immediately, serving until the general election results in November 2027 are certified. By state law, the council must finalize the appointment by September 28.
