Port Angeles – An 85-year-old Sequim man was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after being hit while crossing a street in Port Angeles Tuesday evening.
Trooper Katherine Weatherwax says Richard Boyd was attempting to cross at the corner of Lilac Avenue and Highway 101 near the IGS store when 25-year-old Morgen Ballinger, driving a Toyota pickup, struck him while attempting a right turn.
Trooper Weatherwax, who was at the scene around sunset, gave us this report.
“I believe that she was trying to turn right onto 101 off Lilac Avenue, and the bus…there’s a bus stop right there. And there was a bus. So, she couldn’t really see traffic coming. So she was looking to her left and the pedestrian was crossing from the right to the left. So she was like, inching out, and hit him at a really low speed. But due to his age, he had multiple fractures and a brain bleed. He got taken to Olympic Medical Center and then he got flown to Harborview. So, it’s looking pretty serious. I have not heard the status, but as of right now, he’s still alive.”
Weatherwax said Ballinger was expected to be charged with Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian.
