Port Angeles – The Port Angeles City Council appointed Jon Hamilton Tuesday night as its newest member. Hamilton will serve in Position No. 7 until voters elect a councilmember in the November 2027 General Election.

Hamilton will be sworn in prior to the upcoming September 16 meeting. Date and time are still yet to be determined.

Hamilton has lived and worked in Port Angeles since 2010. He is Vice President of the Port Angeles Education Association, where he represents over 175 educators in collective bargaining, contract oversight, and policy advocacy. During his career, he has engaged directly with elected officials in Olympia and Washington, D.C. to advocate for working families and public education. He is also a Port Angeles High School mathematics teacher, and during his 15 years as an educator, he has developed and implemented standards-based curriculum tailored to meet individual learning needs. He has a B.A in Secondary Mathematics Education from Central Washington University a M.A. in Science Education from Western Governors University.

In his letter of intent, submitted along with his application and resume, Hamilton shared, “As a long-time resident, educator, parent, and active civic leader, I am deeply invested in the wellbeing of our community and believe I can offer collaborative, transparent, and service-driven leadership during this important moment of our city”.

Position No. 7 became vacant earlier this summer when Council member Brendan Meyer announced their resignation. After noticing the vacancy, the City Council received nine valid applications for the position. Of those applications, the Council selected three candidates for interviews during the September 2 meeting: Laurel Cripe, Jon Hamilton, and Christy Holy. Following interviews, the Council voted unanimously to appoint Jon Hamilton to the vacant position.
