PORT ANGELES — Amazon’s effort to build a 58,322-square-foot warehouse and distribution facility in Port Angeles is moving ahead after the city determined Thursday that all environmental mitigation measures will be implemented by the company.
The project would be located on a 25.6-acre parcel at the northwest corner of West Edgewood Drive and South Critchfield Road. City officials say the public comment period, which ended May 31, brought in nine responses. Concerns ranged from impacts on fish and wildlife in the Dry Creek Corridor to traffic, noise, and the broader long-term economic effects on the community.
As part of its approval, the city placed 14 mitigation conditions on the permit. They include dust control during construction, securing a stormwater permit from state Ecology, and widening a section of Edgewood Drive with eight-foot shoulders, 12-foot lanes, turn lanes, and a sidewalk.
City Building Official Shannen Cartmel told KONP in an email, “Building permit review for the proposed distribution warehouse remains ongoing, pending additional information from the applicant.”
