PORT ANGELES — Communities in Clallam County will join the nation Thursday in remembering the September 11, 2001 attacks with solemn ceremonies in Sequim and Port Angeles.

In Sequim, the City and Clallam County Fire District 3 will host a gathering at 9 a.m. at the Civic Center Plaza, 152 W. Cedar Street. The program will be held at the base of a World Trade Center artifact brought to Sequim in 2011 by three local police officers who traveled across the country to retrieve the relic. City officials say the ceremony will provide a time of reflection and connection, and it will also be livestreamed on the City of Sequim’s website for those unable to attend in person.

At 12 noon, the 9/11 Memorial Waterfront Park in Port Angeles will be the site of the county’s other remembrance event.

Organized by the Public Safety Tribute Citizens Committee, the ceremony will open with a flag presentation, an invocation by Sheriff’s Chaplain David Byer, and patriotic songs from the Grand Olympics Chorus.

Speakers will include Port Angeles Police Chief Brian Smith, Fire Division Chief Tyler Gage, and Clallam County Sheriff Brian King. The ceremony will include the history of the park’s twin monuments, a moment of silence, and the lowering of the flag.
