PORT ANGELES — The No. 1–ranked Peninsula Pirates soccer teams open conference play today. At 2:00 p.m., the Pirate men host No. 9 Skagit Valley, followed by the Pirate women at 4:15 p.m. against the seventh-ranked Cardinals.

A familiar face to Roughrider fans will be wearing No. 3 for Skagit Valley. Paige Mason has started all three games for the Cardinals, playing at center.

Former Roughrider Paige Mason will be in town tonight with her seventh-ranked Skagit Valley Cardinals soccer team.

Speaking of former Roughriders, Lilli Halberg is in her sophomore season with the Lower Columbia College Red Devils volleyball team. LCC is 3-2 on the year, and Halberg has played in all five matches, recording 18 sets, 8 service aces, and 61 digs.

Another former Roughrider, Lilli Halberg, is having a strong season with the Lower Columbia College Red Devils volleyball team.

The Sequim Wolves football team is preparing for its Friday night clash with Class 4A Mariner of the tough Wesco League. Last season, the Marauders finished 1-9, averaging just 8 points per game while allowing 45. On Saturday, they fell at home to Mount Vernon, 25-13. Mount Vernon quarterback Kaiden Anderson went 13 of 16 for 181 yards and two touchdowns. Mariner also lost four fumbles in the game.

Head coach Curtis Adkins, a former Montana State player, wants his Marauders to run the ball 80 percent of the time out of the double-wing formation.

Sequim’s defense showed promise in last week’s 18-14 win over Forks. The Wolves will start Liam Wiker, Aaron Golbeck, Patrick Elias, and Josiah Tuller at linebacker. In the secondary, they’ll go with Silas Hagar, Malachi Hampton, and Zeke Schmadeke. The defensive line will be anchored by Andrew Keeler, Duran Ward, Eli Miller, and Warren Nichols.

The Sequim–Mariner game will be broadcast Friday night on KONP Newsradio, with kickoff at 7:00.

In cross-country action today, Port Angeles runs at Bremerton alongside several other teams. The Roughrider swim team also opens its season at home against Olympic at 3:00 p.m., while Sequim travels to state power Bainbridge at 3:30.
