BREMERTON — Angie Gooding’s Roughrider cross country teams, along with Sequim, had a strong showing at the Olympic League meet in Bremerton.
In the girls’ 5,000 meters, Port Angeles’ Leia Larson finished 3rd in 22:20.7. Sequim’s Emily Bair was 8th in 23:44.1. For the Roughriders, Storey Schmidt placed 20th in 25:46.3 and Mariam Cobb was 22nd in 25:49. A total of 82 runners competed in the girls’ race.
On the boys’ side, 46 runners lined up. Port Angeles placed three athletes in the top 22, while Sequim had four in the top 17.
- Roughriders: Easton Dempsey 4th (18:34.6), Henry Wendel 14th (19:31.1), Justin McLarty 22nd (20:35.0).
- Sequim: Reid Randall 7th (19:21.8), Adrian Osborne 8th (19:23.2), Gavin Topper 16th (19:47.2), Westly French 17th (19:48.5)

The Roughrider cross country team saw Henry Wendel place 14th out of 46 runners at the Bremerton meet.
In the team standings, the Port Angeles girls finished 5th and the boys 6th. Sequim’s girls were 7th, while the boys placed 3rd.
The Roughrider swim team opened their season with a 112–65 win over Olympic. First-place finishers included:
- Amayah Nelson in the 200 and 500 freestyle
- Lynzee Reid in diving
- Chloe Kay Sanders in the 100 butterfly
- Ellie Karjalainen in the 100 breaststroke
Port Angeles also won all four relays, with Mia Frances, Lizzy Shaw, and Anaya Tejeda swimming key legs.
In college soccer, the No. 1–ranked Peninsula men blanked No. 9 Skagit Valley 7–0. Edwin Diaz led the Pirates with two goals and an assist, while Jeremie Kuelo, Jeremy Obah, Austin Collins, and Ezrah Ochoa also found the net.
The top-ranked Pirate women dominated statistically but were held to a 1–1 draw. Peninsula outshot Skagit Valley 29–5 and held a 9–0 edge in corner kicks. Shiori Shintaku scored in the first half, but the Cardinals escaped with the tie despite picking up five yellow cards and a red.
Peninsula hosts a Saturday doubleheader against Edmonds.
Tonight in prep soccer, Port Angeles travels to North Mason and Sequim hosts Kingston, both at 7 p.m. In tennis, Port Angeles is at Bainbridge and Sequim is at North Mason at 4 p.m. In volleyball, Sequim hosts Kingston at 6:30 p.m.

The Sequim Wolves soccer team hosts Kingston tonight in Sequim at 7 p.m.
