BELFAIR — The Port Angeles Roughriders girls soccer team improved to 3-0 with a dominant 4-0 shutout of North Mason in Belfair.

Freshman standout Emma Desjardins once again showed why league coaches will be losing sleep over her for the next four years. Desjardins and sophomore Mariah Traband controlled the top of the box all night, but they had plenty of help from their green-and-white teammates.

Traband opened the scoring in the 9th minute on an assist from Becca Manson, who was stellar throughout the match. At the 31st minute, Desjardins found the net on a feed from Stella Fradkin to make it 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Manson added a goal in the 59th minute off an assist from Brooke Pierce, and Desjardins capped the night with her second goal in the 67th, again set up by Fradkin.

Port Angeles outshot the Bulldogs 29-3. Sophomore goalkeeper Persephone Perry earned her first varsity minutes in the second half. The Roughriders now turn to their first big test of the season — a home match against state power Bainbridge on Tuesday night.

Meanwhile, Sequim fell 2-1 in overtime to Kingston in a game that echoed last October’s matchup between the teams. The Wolves had several good looks in the first half but couldn’t convert. Early in the second half, Kiley Winter broke through with a spectacular shot from the right baseline to put Sequim ahead 1-0. Kingston tied it on a rebound from a penalty kick and netted the game-winner in the second overtime. Sequim will host North Mason on Tuesday.

In high school football, Port Angeles looks to snap a 10-game losing streak when they host Forks tonight at Civic Field. The Spartans are down to their third-string quarterback after Landon Olson suffered a broken leg against Sequim. Kickoff is 7:00.

On KONP Newsradio, Sequim travels to Everett to face Class 4A Mariner at Frank Goddard Stadium. Pregame coverage begins at 6:05 with Mariner coach Curtis Adkins, followed by The Ian Henley Show. The Wolves Locker Room Show will feature sophomore QB Kaiden Miller and senior wideout Malachi Hampton. Kickoff is set for 7:00.

Mariner Head Coach Curtis Adkins, who played for the Montana State Bobcats from 1999–2003, will be featured on the Enemy Coaches Show at 6:05.

For Sequim, wide receiver Zeke Schmadeke and tailback Liam Wiker will lead the Wolves against Class 4A Mariner tonight. Coverage is live on KONP Newsradio with the postgame show to follow.
