LOCAL SPORTS: Pirates Dominate Edmonds, Roughriders Snap Streak, Wolves Shine on Defense

PORT ANGELES — In soccer action, the Peninsula Pirate men blew out Edmonds 12-0.
Austin Collins scored four goals for the Pirates, while Jeremy Obah added two. Peninsula outshot Edmonds 34-3.

The Pirate women also shut out Edmonds, 5-0. Baylee Rawlinson, Kam Yamashita, Isis Bryant, Kasi Baker, and Shiori Shintaku all found the net as the Pirates held a 30-2 shots advantage. Both teams travel to Everett on Wednesday.

There’s a big soccer matchup tomorrow night as 3-0 Port Angeles hosts state power Bainbridge (1-1) at Peninsula College. Kickoff is set for 7:15.

In volleyball, Sequim took three of four sets from Olympic. Port Angeles hits the road today to face East Jefferson, starting at 6:30.

In high school football, the Port Angeles Roughriders snapped a 10-game losing streak with a 26-7 win over Forks.
Quarterback Carson Waddell completed 16 of 30 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns. Jude Wallace had three receptions for 68 yards and two scores. Oliver Martinez caught six passes for 50 yards, Ian Smithson added four for 60 yards, and Easton Fisher had three grabs for 67 yards. Dylan Mann carried 12 times for 50 yards and a touchdown.

The Roughriders open Olympic League play Friday night at unbeaten North Mason (2-0). The Bulldogs have beaten Klahowya 37-0 and Kingston 40-8. KONP Newsradio will have the live broadcast Friday night from Belfair.

Former WSU Cougar and NFL player John Fullington is in his second year as head coach of his alma mater, the North Mason Bulldogs.

The Sequim Wolves turned in a strong defensive effort, beating 4A Mariner 17-6.
Senior Zeke Schmadeke opened the scoring with a 19-yard touchdown run on the final play of the first quarter. Quarterback Kaiden Miller added a 2-yard score in the third to make it 14-0. After Mariner closed to 14-6, sophomore kicker Fred Wilhelm sealed it with a 22-yard field goal late in the game.

Defensively, Schmadeke also starred at safety, while senior defensive end Andrew Keeler dominated in the first half. Linebacker Aron Golbeck delivered several big hits, freshman defensive back Silas Hagar grabbed a key fourth-quarter interception, and senior lineman Logan Doyle contributed strong minutes off the bench. Sequim will host Elma Friday night. The Eagles are 1-1 after beating Centralia 41-28 and falling to Highline 31-28.

Wolves freshman cornerback Silas Hagar and broadcaster DiAndre Campbell were all smiles as Hagar talked about his late-game interception.

It was a festive postgame press box as Silas Hagar, Zeke Schmadeke, and Andrew Keeler joined the KONP broadcast team of DiAndre Campbell and Oly Archibald.
