PORT ANGELES — City and County leaders are set to take another big step toward building a new Joint Public Safety Facility.
The Port Angeles City Council and Clallam County Commissioners will meet tonight at 5 p.m. to review final design plans, funding commitments, and a design and construction agreement for the project.
The facility, planned for the 2200 block of West Edgewood Drive near Fairchild Airport, will house the county’s Emergency Operations Center and the 911 dispatch center. Officials say the current facilities are outdated, cramped, and vulnerable to earthquakes.
Originally estimated at $30 million, the project was pared down to about $22 million through design changes, including smaller square footage and consolidated lobbies. Funding comes from a mix of city and county dollars, state and federal grants, and FEMA support.
The project is now in the 60-percent design phase. If approved, construction bids could go out later this year, with completion expected by 2027.
Public comments will be accepted at tonight’s meeting at Port Angeles City Hall both in person and online. Visit https://www.cityofpa.us/Live-Virtual-Meetings for info on how to participate virtually.
