PORT ANGELES — Local basketball fans should circle Wednesday, November 19, on their calendars — it’s going to be a big night at the University of Washington’s Hec Ed Pavilion. On that night, former Port Angeles Roughrider and Peninsula Pirate standout Millie Long will return to the Northwest with her Fresno State Bulldogs to take on the Washington Huskies. Adding to the excitement, two 5th- and 6th-grade girls’ teams from Sequim and Port Angeles will square off in a special halftime game. In prep tennis yesterday, Port Angeles edged Sequim 4-3 in a tightly contested match. In singles, Sky Gelder topped Lincoln Bear 6-4, 6-2, Grant Butterworth rolled past Zach Post 6-0, 6-1, and Owen Leitz rallied to beat Wyatt Perez 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. In doubles, Liam Miller and Jensen Wolfe fell to Mason Rapelje and Bjorn Hennkson 5-7, 4-6, Alik Ross and Jacob Oberly lost to Sebastian Buhrer and Ryan Stites 5-7, 4-6, and Brett Mason and Gagan Seera dropped their match to Tegan Kurtze and Josh Loucks 2-6, 5-7. Abe Brenkman and Kyler Fowler clinched the win for Port Angeles with a hard-fought 7-6, 7-6 victory over Lauson Klinger and Nico Moss.
The Hood Canal Bridge closure is forcing changes to several high school sports events on the North Olympic Peninsula.
The North Kitsap at Port Angeles soccer and volleyball matches originally set for today have been rescheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Sequim’s soccer and volleyball contests against Olympic will still be played today, but both have been moved up a couple of hours to a 4:30 start time.

Meanwhile, former Roughrider swimmer Harper McGuire is making waves in her sophomore year at the University of Puget Sound, competing in the 50-meter freestyle for the Loggers.
