PORT ANGELES – Friday night at Civic Field, after another long night of yellow flags, the Port Angeles Roughriders used their Homecoming energy and a “we’re better than you” edge to muscle past the Sequim Wolves 27-14.
The Riders, now 2-2, flexed their interior line and leaned on senior running back Dylan Mann, who pounded out 155 yards and all four Port Angeles touchdowns. Junior quarterback Carson Waddell was sharp, hitting 11 of 17 passes for 166 yards, with two more throws dropped that could have been scores.
The Riders were so effective running the ball and the clock that the Wolves’ offense spent much of the game on the sidelines. On defense, Port Angeles limited Wolves running backs Zeke Schmadeke and Liam Wiker to just 77 yards on 14 carries.

Rider standouts Dylan Mann and Carson Waddell also joined the KONP Newsradio Postgame Show for interviews.

After the game, Port Angeles head coach Dustin Clark was all smiles on the KONP Newsradio Postgame Show as his Roughriders celebrated a 27-14 win over Sequim.

Next up, the Roughriders host North Kitsap, which blew out North Mason 52-21 Friday night. Sequim, now 3-2, will take on Bremerton — a much tougher team than its 1-3 record suggests. The Knights nearly upset 3A state power Kelso, losing a close one 36-29. The Bremerton–Sequim game will be broadcast here on KONP Friday night. Port Angeles’ next broadcast comes October 10th at Bainbridge.

Twelve-year-old junior rodeo star Skylar Burgett of Sequim was featured on the VIP Halftime Show during the Roughriders–Wolves football game. Skylar shared what life is like on the rodeo circuit with her horse, Jessie.
In soccer, the Roughriders lost a heartbreaker to North Kitsap 1-0. Port Angeles is now 3-2 in league play, two games back of unbeaten North Kitsap and Bainbridge at 5-0. Sequim is fourth at 2-3.
At Peninsula College, the Pirate men beat Shoreline 4-0 with goals from Reid Sato, Angel Sandoval, Austin Collins, and Jack Normen. The Pirate women rolled past Shoreline 23-0, led by Grace Widergren’s five goals and Isis Bryant’s three.
The Pirates travel to Bellevue on Wednesday, with the men kicking off at 2:00 and the women at 4:15.
And in prep tennis, the Port Angeles Roughriders are in action today.
