PORT ANGELES — Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue crews quickly put out an outside fire Monday morning that sent a large column of black smoke over Edgewood Drive.
Fire Chief Jake Patterson says he was driving east on Edgewood around 11:40 a.m. when he noticed smoke coming from the 2300 block. The property was fenced and locked, but bystanders helped firefighters cut through the gate so crews could get in.
Once inside, firefighters found several types of stored materials burning along the north fence line — but no structures were involved. Two engines, two command vehicles, and a medic unit with nine firefighters responded. The fire was knocked down quickly, with no injuries reported.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office also responded because the lock had to be cut to reach the flames. The cause of the fire remains under investigation
