PORT ANGELES — It’s a done deal — the Port Angeles Roughriders have finally ended their five-year, eight-game soccer skid against North Kitsap.
The Riders pulled off a stunning 2–0 upset over the ninth-ranked Vikings, giving Head Coach Dan Horton his first win over North Kitsap after an 0-8 start. Port Angeles’ last win in the rivalry came back on October 14th, 2021, under then-coach Scott Moseley.

Senior Teanna Clark broke the scoreless tie in the 36th minute, cleaning up a rebound after Mariah Traband’s rocket shot slipped through the keeper’s hands. In the 45th minute, Emma Desjardins buried her 17th goal of the season, finishing a perfect cross from fellow senior Pyper Alton for the final 2–0 score.

The Roughrider defense was lights-out — holding the Vikings to just nine shots, all from outside the box. Goalie Kennedy Rognlien recorded six saves in the shutout.

Now 8-3, Port Angeles travels to Sequim on Tuesday — you’ll hear that rivalry match right here on KONP Newsradio, with a one-hour pregame show.

In Sequim’s match Thursday, the Wolves improved to 5-6 with a convincing 5–1 win at Olympic. Kaiya Robinson scored in the 16th minute off a corner from Raimey Brewer, who also assisted on goals by Ruby Horgan-Moxley and Hailey Wagoner. Kiley Winter scored unassisted in the 30th minute, and Brewer capped the night with a goal just before the final whistle.

Kiley Winter and Ruby Horgan-Moxley each scored a goal in Sequim’s 5–1 win over Olympic.

In boys’ tennis, second-place Port Angeles handled Bremerton 6–1. Singles winners were Grant Butterworth, Sky Gelder, and Liam Miller. In doubles, Alik Ross and Abe Brenkman, Brett Manson and Gagan Seera, and Jacob Oberly and Khyler Fowler all picked up straight-set wins.

Coming up this weekend — Peninsula College soccer hosts a doubleheader with Whatcom on Saturday, starting at noon.

In high-school football, Sequim visits Olympic tonight at 6:30. The Port Angeles Roughriders travel to Bellingham tomorrow to face Squalicum — kickoff at 5:00.

The Roughriders (2–4) travel to Bellingham tomorrow to take on Squalicum (3–3) at Historic Civic Field.

The KONP pregame show starts at 4:00, featuring seniors Owen Leitz, Liam Miller, and Grant Butterworth from Roughrider tennis, followed by football seniors and brothers River and Hunter Flores, and head coach Dustin Clark.
