PORT ANGELES — Arrest warrants have been issued for a Port Angeles couple accused of stabbing a Good Samaritan and stealing his vehicle in Carlsborg.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office says 30-year-old Nicholas Well and 29-year-old Rosario Lopez-Castro face charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and theft of a motor vehicle. Each has bail set at $750,000. Prosecutors added enhancements for using a deadly weapon and targeting a Good Samaritan.
Deputies say 60-year-old Melvin Swagerty of Port Angeles was stabbed in the neck around 8:10 p.m. Sunday on Carlsborg Road. He had earlier stopped to help a stranded family along Highway 101 near Deer Park Road. Swagerty was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center; his condition has not been released.
The suspects, who have seven children, were found hours later in Swagerty’s stolen Lexus near Bremerton. Deputies recovered a bloody knife from Well’s pocket. Both were arrested on related charges in Kitsap County, where they remain in jail with additional bail and no-contact orders protecting the victim and their children.
