Search Suspended for Missing Boater on Bogachiel River Near Forks

FORKS — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office says the search for a missing boater on the Bogachiel River has been put on hold for now.

Thirty-nine-year-old Alfonso Graham of Port Orchard disappeared Thursday after a drift boat carrying four people flipped in the river southwest of Forks. Crews from several agencies searched all weekend with drones and rescue boats, covering the stretch between Wilson Road and Leyendecker County Park.

The drift boat has been recovered, but Graham still hasn’t been found.

There was one bit of good news — a family dog that was lost in the accident was spotted by a Forks resident Monday morning and safely returned to the Akers family in Sequim.

Thirty-five-year-old Christian Akers and his 7-year-old son Wyatt were pulled from the river Thursday but did not survive.

Officials say high water and debris have made it too dangerous to continue searching. They’ll take another look once conditions improve.
