Port Angeles – This is a challenging time for all traditional media but even more perhaps, is the case for newspapers.

To that end, two top managers of the Peninsula Daily News were given the opportunity to present at Wednesday’s Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon.

Editor Brian McLean and Publisher Eran Kennedy came prepared to present and take questions both.  They opened by reminding the room of the importance of strong and tenured local reporting.  The kind of reporting that includes civic coverage, reporting on decisions by elected officials on our behalf and finally, being prepared to report breaking news as and when it happens.

The job of a newspaper is to be “a trusted voice in a complex world” stated Kennedy.

The room was reminded that human interest stories, public service announcements, press releases, coverage of the arts and sports are a critical component of their job as well.

Kennedy also gave a kind mention to KONP Radio.

In taking questions, there was a round of applause when one person commented how important it was to still receive a printed newspaper.

Kennedy used the opportunity to announce the retirement Keith Thorpe. Thorpe, a long term photographer, has just recently retired. He had been with the newspaper for 29 years.
