Port Angeles – With the holidays coming, the folks at your local Salvation Army have begun taking applications for this year’s Salvation Army Angel Tree program, which helps provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of children around the country each year.

Once a child has been registered and accepted as an Angel their Christmas wish list is shared with donors in your community who purchase gifts of new clothing and toys. The gifts are distributed to the family to place under their family Christmas tree.

But to get them on the list and have their names on the Christmas trees around town, you have to go to the website, at saangeltree.org, and get them registered.

The Salvation Army collects necessary information to determine qualification for participation in the program and details on each Angel. Examples may include photo ID and proof of residence. The parent or guardian will be asked about clothing and shoe sizes, and a toy wish for each child.

No private information for you or your Angel is shared with the public. Donors will only be given a first name and Christmas wish list for each Angel. Deadline to register is December 1.

Now is also the time to register to ring one of the bells in the Salvation Army’s yearly Red Kettle campaign.

Volunteers can sign up individually, as a family, as a club, or as a business. Sign up for 2 hour increments for individuals and families. Clubs or businesses can fill a whole day at any location. The hours are generally 9:45am to 6:00pm. Go to registertoring.com.
