Port Angeles – We have a report of an officer involved shooting in Port Angeles today near the corner of 9th and E Streets.
Deputy Police Chief Jason Viada called in this report.
“Earlier this afternoon, OPNET, PAPD and Clallam County Sheriff’s were in the neighborhood attempting to arrest the suspect wanted on a US Marshal’s warrant for assault, and that attempt at an arrest resulted in a foot pursuit. During the foot pursuit, the suspect produced what certainly appeared to be a handgun, and that, and another series of events, resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was transported away from the scene by ambulance, and the Washington State Office of Independent Investigations has arrived on scene and they will be conducting the independent investigation of a legal use of force by police officers, as is required by Washington state law. Additional details to follow as soon as we are able. No officers were hit by gunfire during this incident, and there is no additional danger to the public as a result of this incident at this time.”
This is a developing story. We’ll bring you more as details become available.
