Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, State Commerce Department Strengthen Partnership with New MOU

tribemou

SEATTLE — The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and the Washington State Department of Commerce have signed a new memorandum of understanding, formally cementing their government-to-government relationship and clearing the way for smoother collaboration.

Tribal Chair and CEO W. Ron Allen and Commerce Director Joe Nguyễn signed the agreement in Seattle. It aims to cut administrative red tape, strengthen communication, and set culturally informed standards for data privacy and security.

Allen said the MOU reflects the Tribe’s long-standing government-to-government status and reinforces a partnership that spans key areas such as economic development, health care, natural resources, and cultural preservation. The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe is now Clallam County’s second-largest employer.

This marks the 12th MOU Commerce has signed with tribal governments, with more expected in 2026. Nguyễn said the department values the Tribe’s leadership and ongoing contributions across Washington.

Commerce officials say the agreement continues their push to simplify funding processes, broaden grant access, and strengthen working relationships with tribal nations.
