Port Angeles – If you’ve noticed workers removing big sheets of siding from the exterior walls of Field Arts and Events Hall in Port Angeles this week, we have the story.
It seems the material used to fabricate the siding was found to be defective, and all of it is being replaced. We spoke Wednesday with the President of the Board, Judge Brooke Taylor.
“The siding that we had selected, and the architects had selected, very soon after installation, turned out to be defective. And so we basically left it up to the contractor and the supplier to work out a fix. And they have done that. But we don’t know how the parties worked it out amongst themselves. It’s really none of our business, as long as they don’t expect Field Hall and our donors to pay for the repairs, and they don’t.”
Taylor credited the contractor, Mortenson Construction, with taking full responsibility and for handling the situation. He said it was expected to look the same as the old siding, if not better.
He said he was not sure about the timeline for getting the work done, but he thought it was just a matter of weeks.
