Sequim – As we reported in September, the 54-home neighborhood in the center of Sequim called Flaura’s Acres is not actually part of Sequim. The homeowners who live there are county residents. But that’s about to change thanks to a cooperative effort between the City of Sequim, Clallam County, and the state Departments of Ecology and Health.
Under an Interlocal Agreement between the County and the City, the agreement with the State Dept. of Ecology, a $2.5 million loan originally awarded to the County to fix Flaura’s Acres’ sewer system is being passed to the City. The ILA also addresses their private water system, which will also be replaced and hooked up to the City’s water system. All work will occur under one contract.
The Sequim City Council approved the agreement at Monday’s council meeting. It’s described as a standard loan from Ecology that will be repaid by the residents of Flaura’s Acres. The loan has an interest rate of .7% and a 20-year term. The Forgivable Principal Loan portion of the funding would not require repayment. The project is included in the 2026 City of Sequim budget in the Capital Improvement Plan.
In a separate agreement, The City was awarded $1.6 million in Community Development Block Grant funding to complete street and sidewalk improvements as part of the Flaura’s Acres project.
The City of Sequim, Clallam County, and Flaura’s Acres HOA intend to pursue annexation into the City of Sequim concurrently with the design and construction of the sewer system, water services, and street upgrades. This work will be completed in 2026.
Flaura’s Acres is located between the Shipley Center and Highway 101 along Still Road within Sequim City limits.
