PORT ANGELES — Powerful overnight winds swept across the North Olympic Peninsula, knocking out power, closing public spaces, and creating hazardous travel conditions from Sequim to Port Angeles.
Wind gusts peaked near 70 miles per hour in the Sequim area, with gusts topping 50 miles per hour in Port Angeles. The strong winds brought down trees and power lines, triggering widespread outages.
Clallam PUD reported that approximately 2,000 customers were without electricity at the height of the storm. Port Angeles City Light also reported scattered outages within city limits, with crews responding to multiple trouble spots.
As a precaution, the City of Port Angeles closed Lincoln Park due to the threat of falling trees and debris. City officials urged residents to avoid the area until conditions improve and crews are able to assess damage.
The storm also pushed debris and water onto roadways throughout the region, creating slick and hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are urged to slow down, watch for downed branches, and avoid flooded areas where possible.
No serious injuries have been reported. Utility and public works crews continued response and cleanup efforts as winds gradually eased and the storm system moved east.
