SEATTLE — Two major ferry routes connecting Seattle to Kitsap County are down to one-boat service due to mechanical problems.
The Tacoma, a 202-vehicle ferry serving the Seattle-Bainbridge Island route, was pulled from service Sunday because of an oil tube issue. Washington State Ferries expects full service to resume next week.
Meanwhile, the Walla Walla, a 57-year-old ferry on the Seattle-Bremerton route, was sidelined Thursday after a propeller blade broke. Repairs could take up to three weeks.
Riders are advised to follow one-boat schedules or consider Kitsap Transit’s walk-on fast ferry.
These setbacks come as the state works to restore pre-pandemic service levels. Washington operates 21 ferries but says it needs 26 to meet demand. Governor Bob Ferguson has proposed more than $1 billion to improve the fleet, delaying full electrification until 2026.
