LOCAL SPORTS: Millie Long Joins 1,000-Point Club as Roughriders Roll on the Lanes

PORT ANGELES — Former Roughrider and Peninsula Pirate Millie Long is now a member of the collegiate 1,000-point club.

Long scored 21 points in an 86–56 win over Utah State, while also handing out five assists and grabbing four rebounds. Those 21 points pushed Long past the 1,000-point mark for her five-year collegiate career.

The Bulldogs are 9–9 and will play at the University of Nevada in Reno on Saturday, with tip-off set for 1:00.

In bowling action, Port Angeles swept Sequim 7–0.

Leilah Franich rolled a season-high 192 and recorded a turkey in both games.
Zoey Van Gordon bowled a 162, and Izzy Spencer added a 154.

In Game 2, Kenadie Ring rolled a 147, while Brooklyn McKnight finished with a two-game series of 255.

Head coach Rebecca Gunderson was pleased with her team’s performance.

“Leilah Franich was very focused today. There was so much energy and support, and I’m happy to see us bowling well right before postseason play begins.”

Roughrider bowling head coach Rebecca Gunderson (right), alongside team leader Zoey Van Gordon, will host their final home match of the season Monday at 1:00 against North Mason.

The Roughriders will host North Mason on Monday at 1:00. It will be the final match for seven seniors, who will be honored afterward.

There is high school basketball action tonight.  The Roughrider boys host North Mason at 7:00.

On Saturday, it’s NWAC basketball action as the Peninsula Pirates host Edmonds for a doubleheader.  The men tip off at 2:00, followed by the women at 4:00.

Roughrider head coach Alison Crumb, speaking on a KONP Newsradio postgame show, has her Peninsula Pirates at home Saturday against Edmonds. The Pirates have now won 43 consecutive Northern Conference games.
