Clallam County Delays Vote on RV, ADU Ordinance After Lengthy Public Pushback

rv

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County commissioners are delaying a decision on a proposed ordinance regulating recreational vehicles and accessory dwelling units after hearing continued public opposition.

During a three-and-a-half-hour meeting Tuesday, residents voiced concerns over the ordinance’s impact on people living in RVs. The proposal aims to clarify rules and allow long-term RV use under specific conditions, while addressing safety and infrastructure standards.

Bruce Emery, the county’s Community Development director, said current codes restrict RV occupancy to 30 days without proper utilities and limit one dwelling per parcel. The ordinance would consolidate scattered rules and remove the department from regulating length of occupancy.

Commissioners, however, said more work is needed. Commissioner Randy Johnson stressed protecting vulnerable RV residents. Commissioner Mike French called for clearer language to avoid confusion and unintended consequences.

The board plans a future work session but has not set a date.
