Overnight Lodging Returns to Fort Worden Historical State Park This Spring

PORT TOWNSEND — Washington State Parks says overnight lodging will return to Fort Worden Historical State Park this spring, a limited step toward restoring visitor services after the upper campus’ hospitality and concession operations collapsed last year.

Reservations are now open for stays April 1 through Oct. 31, reopening historic buildings that have been closed since early 2025, when financial problems forced Fort Worden Hospitality to shut down and many on-site services ceased.

State Parks terminated its lease with the Fort Worden Public Development Authority in February 2025 and resumed direct control of the 90-acre upper campus. Campgrounds remained open, but roofed lodging and most concessions were unavailable.

The 2026 season includes a limited reopening of historic officers’ and non-commissioned officers’ quarters, along with select group facilities. State Parks says some food, coffee and rental concessions are operating again, with hours expanding gradually.

Officials describe the move as a phased crawl back of services, not a full reopening, as long-term plans for the campus continue.
