PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Roughrider baseball team has filled its head coaching position with former Roughrider Wyatt Hall. Hall played two years at Skagit Valley College and just completed a solid two-year run at Cal State San Bernardino.

The college softball season has begun, and once again several former area prep athletes are competing at the collegiate level.

At Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, an NCAA Division II program, former Roughrider Heidi Leitz will pitch for the Saints, wearing number 1 in the red and white.
If Leitz doesn’t already have frequent flyer miles, she will soon.

Saint Martin’s opens the season in Conroe, Texas, on January 30th, playing five games in three days, beginning with Chadron State. The Saints then travel to Stanislaus, California, for another five games in three days starting February 13th against Menlo. Their home opener is set for March 6th against Western Washington.

Saint Martin’s is picked to finish second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  Leitz led the Roughriders to two Final Four appearances during her junior and senior seasons.

Former Roughrider Heidi Leitz will wear number 1 this softball season for NCAA Division II Saint Martin’s University.

In high school basketball action tonight, the Port Angeles girls, 8-0 in league play and 10-5 overall, travel to Olympic, which comes in at 2-7 in league and 4-11 overall.

The Trojans have lost their last five games, while the Roughriders are riding an eight-game winning streak.
Port Angeles defeated Olympic 47-15 earlier this season.
