Sheriff’s Office Warns of Rise in Crisis Calls Linked to High-THC Products

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Sheriff’s deputies responded to three separate incidents in the area over the past week involving people in “extreme behavioral health crises”.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, the individuals posed a danger to themselves or others and were involved in significant criminal activity, including extensive property damage and injuries to deputies. In all three cases, deputies were forced to detain the individuals—either booking them into the Clallam County Jail or placing them under emergency mental health detention.

Investigators say each individual had consumed high-potency THC cannabis concentrates prior to the incidents.

In the release, the Sheriff’s Office points to recent studies linking high-THC products to increased psychosis, paranoia, and violent or erratic behavior, particularly among young adults, and notes that today’s cannabis products are far more potent than in the past.
