PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles girls basketball team clinched the Olympic League championship last night with a 63–44 win over Kingston.

With the victory, the Roughriders—now 13–1 in league play and 15–6 overall—earn the district’s top seed. They’ll host the winner of the No. 8 vs. No. 9 seed game on February 18. A win there would send Port Angeles to the district semifinals on February 20 at Bainbridge High School.

Against the Buccaneers, Lindsay Smith led the way with 24 points. Teanna Clark added 18, and Morgan Politika finished with seven. The five Roughrider seniors now own a four-year combined record of 63–30, including one trip to the state tournament in Yakima.

On the boys’ side, Port Angeles dropped a tough one at Kingston, falling 66–61. A win would have secured third place in the league, but the loss drops the Roughriders to fourth. Port Angeles will host a loser-out district game on February 14, likely as the No. 6 seed against the No. 11 seed.

Hunter Flores led the Roughriders with 14 points. John Ruddell scored 13, while Brody Pierce and Brock Hope each finished with 12.

The Peninsula Pirates basketball teams are on the road tomorrow at Whatcom, with the men tipping off at 2 p.m. and the women at 4.

In state flag football, Sequim travels to Ferndale for a 2:30 start against Squalicum, while Port Angeles hosts Kingston at Peninsula College with kickoff set for 3 o’clock.

Quarterback Kennedy Rognlien and the Port Angeles Roughriders host Kingston tomorrow in the state flag football playoffs.

Former Roughrider and Pirate Millie Long had a strong night for Fresno State, scoring 19 points, grabbing six rebounds, and adding four assists and three steals in a 70–59 win over San Jose State. The Bulldogs host Nevada tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Former Roughrider shortstop Alex Angevine shows off his new Western Oregon University uniform. The Wolves opened their season this week.
