SEQUIM — One person is dead and two others were airlifted to Seattle-area hospitals after a head-on crash Sunday night on Highway 101 east of Sequim.
The Washington State Patrol says the collision happened just after 7:00 p.m. near milepost 267 at Palo Alto Road.
Investigators say a westbound 2004 Chevrolet Silverado crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2007 Toyota FJ head-on. Both vehicles were destroyed and came to rest in opposite ditches.
Thirty-nine-year-old Micah Lacunza of Port Hadlock, who was driving the pickup, was not wearing a seatbelt. He was airlifted to Providence Regional Medical Center and faces possible charges of vehicular assault and vehicular homicide.
The driver of the Toyota, 34-year-old Mathilde Richford of Lynnwood, was also airlifted — taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Troopers say she was wearing a seatbelt.
A passenger in the Toyota, 39-year-old Skylor Richford of Lynnwood, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Troopers say drugs or alcohol were involved.
