SEQUIM — A Sequim man is in custody following a hit-and-run crash and police pursuit Friday morning.
According to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 8:38 a.m. to the 9500 block of Old Olympic Highway in Sequim after a driver reported being rear-ended while stopped at the four-way stop at Old Olympic Highway and Evans Road.
Authorities say the suspect vehicle — described as a blue Jeep Cherokee driven by a man wearing headphones — left the scene.
A Sequim Police Department officer later located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. Deputies say the suspect drove recklessly, entered oncoming lanes, and passed vehicles on the shoulder, prompting a pursuit.
Deputy Torri Middlekauff took over as primary pursuing deputy with lights and siren activated. After receiving supervisory approval, deputies performed a PIT maneuver on Towne Road, bringing the vehicle to a stop in a nearby farm field.
The pursuit lasted about 12 minutes and covered nearly six miles.
Thirty-three-year-old Derek Morgan of Sequim was taken into custody without incident. He was arrested for Attempting to Elude a Police Officer and Hit and Run — Attended, and booked into the Clallam County Jail.
No injuries were reported.
