
YAKIMA — The Port Angeles girls and Peninsula Pirate men’s basketball teams saw their seasons come to an end yesterday.
The Roughriders fell to number-four seed Archbishop Murphy 53 to 29. The Wildcats jumped out to a 20–4 first-quarter lead and took a 30–8 advantage into halftime. Port Angeles was much more competitive in the second half, getting outscored by just three points, 23–20.
The Wildcats also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Riders 58–29.
Even though Santa Clara University signee Brooke Blachly had a relatively cold shooting night — going 4 of 7 from the field and 2 of 10 from three — the Wildcats’ shooting guard still finished with 19 points.
Lindsay Smith led Port Angeles with 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
Mikkhia Stevens added seven points and four rebounds.
Sariah Doherty and London Bourland each scored four points, while Kenzie Moses and Morgan Politika added two apiece.
Senior Teanna Clark was held scoreless but still contributed seven rebounds and five blocked shots.
With only Morgan Politika and London Bourland returning with significant varsity experience, the Roughriders will face a major rebuild next season.
Meanwhile, the Peninsula Pirate men’s season ended with an 81–61 loss to Eastern Conference champion Treasure Valley. The Chukars built a 44–29 halftime lead and outrebounded Peninsula 57–27.
Sam Tekeste led the Pirates with 18 points. Patrick Odingo added 13, Cinco McNeal scored 12, and former Roughrider Gus Halberg finished with six.

The Peninsula Pirate women begin NWAC Tournament play Saturday at noon against Treasure Valley. That game will be broadcast on KONP Newsradio.

Pirates forwards Makena Patrick and Aspen Fraser will need big games Saturday against a strong Treasure Valley Chukars team in the NWAC Sweet 16.
