PORT ANGELES — Former Port Angeles Roughrider long-distance runner Jack Gladfelter earned his fourth All-American honor in just two years and narrowly missed a national championship by one second.
Gladfelter competed at the NAIA National Track and Field Championships at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He finished second in the 5,000-meter run, losing the national title by just one second to Cumberlands’ Luca Madeo, last year’s national champion. Gladfelter, a junior at Corban University, posted a time of 14:14.31.

Former Roughrider Eve Burke has helped lead the Linfield Wildcats to one of the best seasons in school history. The Wildcats finished 15–1 in conference play and 22–4 overall, both school records.
Burke started all 26 games, averaging 26 minutes per game while contributing 11 points and 5 rebounds per contest, shooting 47 percent from the field and 76 percent from the free-throw line.
Linfield is expected to receive an at-large bid to the upcoming NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Former Roughrider Millie Long helped lead the Fresno State Bulldogs to a 74–57 win over New Mexico in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament in Las Vegas. Long scored 15 points and grabbed five rebounds.
The Bulldogs were defeated the following night by UNLV, 78–65. Long finished that game with 19 points and seven rebounds.
On the season, Long started all 33 games, averaging 13 points and four rebounds per game, while shooting 41 percent from the field and 84 percent from the free-throw line.
Fresno State finished the season 8–12 in conference play and 15–18 overall. Unless the Bulldogs receive a postseason invitation to the WNIT, their season is likely over.
Long has also discussed the possibility of playing professional basketball in Europe.

And congratulations to the Neah Bay girls basketball team, which captured its fourth consecutive 1B State Championship.
Meanwhile, the Bremerton Knights won their second straight 2A boys state championship.
